A kitchen screen for $225, not $800.

LocalRun Kitchen puts every order — register, online, DoorDash, Uber Eats — on a screen your cooks can tap. It runs on a cheap Android TV box, an iPad or Apple device, or the screen you already have. Works with Square’s free plan, and costs $20 a screen.

Built and used every day at Fan Cave Pizzeria in Lexington, TN.

Why kitchens switch

Cheap hardware

No $800 kitchen tablets. An Android TV box and a touchscreen monitor run about $225 a station. Already have an Android tablet or an iPad? Use that.

Works with what you have

Square (even the free plan — Square’s own KDS isn’t available on it), Clover, Shopify, and any other system that can send orders.

Every order, one board

Register, online, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub — each labeled, in its own color, with mods and notes the way cooks read them.

Fast

New orders land in seconds. Bump, mark ready, recall — the whole kitchen sees it at once across every screen.

Built for a real kitchen

Loud alerts, screen flash, ticket timers that go orange then red, all-day counts, scheduled orders that pop up when it’s time to cook.

Your colors

Dark, light for bright kitchens, high contrast, or your own colors per order type. One tap sets every screen.

Things other kitchen screens don’t do

Your kitchen sets the wait

Tap Wait or Busy on the screen and the pickup time quoted on your LocalRun ordering site and AI phone line goes up with it. No more “15 minutes” when you’re slammed.

Help right on the screen

Tap ? Help and get it fixed in plain English, right there in the kitchen. No hold music, no ticket number.

Any screen you’ve got

A $40 Android TV box, an iPad, an old tablet, or the TV already on your wall. No special hardware to buy from us.

Tickets never get cut off

Long orders stack like paper tickets. Nothing hides off the bottom of the screen and no one has to scroll with greasy hands.

Every app, its own color

DoorDash, Uber Eats, your website, phone orders and the register each get their own color and label, so cooks know what’s what at a glance.

Square’s free plan

Square only gives you its kitchen screen on paid plans. Ours works on any Square plan, plus Clover, Shopify and more.

What paper was costing us

At Fan Cave we went through about a case of receipt paper every two months — around $58. Three screens for two months is $120. Take the paper out and the screens cost us about $60 for two months — $7.50 a week.

For that, the kitchen stopped losing tickets, stopped reading smeared paper, and started getting more done. The biggest reason we built it: not paying $800 a screen.

Our math

3 screens × 2 months$120
Paper we stopped buying−$58
Real cost≈ $60 / 2 months

Paper: 3 1/8" × 230' thermal rolls, ~$58 per 50-roll case.

What you need

  • An Android TV box or Android tablet on Android 9 or newer, with 4 GB of RAM. That’s exactly what our kitchen runs every day.
  • A screen with HDMI. A touchscreen monitor (plugged in by USB for touch) is best; a TV remote or a mouse also works.
  • Wi-Fi or a network cable.

Or use what you already have

  • iPad / iPhone on iOS 15 or newer (LocalRun Kitchen app)
  • The TV or monitor already in your kitchen — plug in a $40 Android TV box
  • Any computer or Chromebook in Chrome or Edge — great for expo or the office

Example station: Android TV box (4 GB) + 15–22" USB touchscreen ≈ $225.

Questions

Do I have to pay for Square Plus or Premium?

No. LocalRun Kitchen works with any Square plan, including the free one.

What if the internet drops?

The screen keeps what’s on it and picks back up the moment you’re back online. Orders placed during the outage show up as soon as the connection returns.

Can different stations see different things?

Yes — each screen picks which item groups it shows (pizza line, fryer, expo) and whether bumping clears it everywhere or just on that station.

Is there a contract?

No. Month to month. Remove a screen and it stops on your next bill.

Does it work with Toast?

Not directly yet. If you use an order hub that can send orders on, it can feed your screens.

Ready to get off paper?

$20 a screen. $225 of hardware. Up and running in an afternoon.
